COVID-19 Perceptions and Reality Simple Q & A of recent training

COVID-19 Part 2 Simple Q & A of recent training

As safety Professional we all are aware of Funnel system (Hierarchy Of Controls) but in the present condition everyone opted the last resort i.e. PPE (personal protective equipment) which as per safety standards is considered to be the least effective means of control. And often we have seen the same in the industry as well.

It is nice to see that government has divided the country, states, cities, and subs in category for identification of most affected and zones are made, now it is easy to understand and identify action plan for the same.

Let us think again and understand the basic of safety note this is my perception of understanding better means if possible or in practice should not be left.

1.     Provisions of disinfection spray across the facility is correct or not?
  •  “NO” Note disinfectant chemical exposure is not good. Every disinfectant chemical has an adverse effect on human health, especially to the respiratory tract.
  •  Its better to use soap solution for disinfection as its much more effective. Companies should look for economical and localized solutions rather than investing in chemicals, presently this might seem an easy solution but in the long run can have serious side effects.

2.     SOP, JSA & Posters for COVID 19 along with machines for disinfection and systems are required or what to do?
  •  Temporary provision can be made but not at a larger cost. Most of the companies are going on a panic buy, it's not necessary, make the proper systems to handle emergencies.
  •  Over the years of experience, we have learned one thing and that is often companies and professionals choose easy alternate available but forget the cost of establishing such provisions.

3.     How to ensure social distancing and ensure safety?
  •  Ensuring social distance for all processes is not possible, so what can be done is to ensure that contact surfaces where 2 or more operators are involved use glove and ensure that surface if disinfected by simple soap solution and wiped.
  •  1st Facilities should use a simple cloth mask, how to ensure the mask is ok for use simple candle blow test can be taken at home as well, a candle should not be blown after wearing the mask. (isn’t it simple)
  •  2nd concern is the transport of people if you are wearing masks ensure to wash hands and wear a mask before boarding avoid unnecessary contact of surface, you can use sanitizer here but over gloves not directly on hand. (why? Because excessive contact of sanitizer is also not good. Refer MSDS) Even proper use of sanitizer is prescribed on glove only most of the pharma people will know it.
  •  3rd a major concern is basic hygiene and health concern of individuals on how to improve immunity? well, it's easy again, first, if you are drinking water try and have bit warm water, if possible, take a water bottle from home have your own. You want to go a stage ahead, use hot water, with salt and turmeric. Turmeric is having medicinal properties if turmeric is in the throat it can give you primary protection against virus. (As confirmed by Indian health ministry also). At the time of entering the facility, after meal you should have this mixture its cheaper and easy solution.

There are many questions but these are few, even at homes and societies have seen people going for panic buy, as professionals its our duty to spread awareness as much, chemicals are not good, if you see most of the disinfection health hazard is associated to lungs, my question is you want to save yourself or want to be at risk. Use simple soap solution dilute ones.

Think, if the government is asking that if we wash our hands for 20 seconds we are safe, then why are we disinfecting surface with expensive chemicals, think. All these expenses can be saved. We are happy to Help!

ASK FOR FREE WORKSHOPS FOR SOLUTIONS if required. Don’t fall prey of expensive investment and spend a large sum in prevention.
